📋 How eBay Seller Fees Work in 2026
When you sell on eBay, several fees apply. The main fee is the final value fee (FVF), which is a percentage of the total sale amount including shipping. This percentage varies by category — most categories charge 12.70%–13.60% for non-store sellers. Since eBay moved to managed payments, there is no separate payment processing fee — it's included in the final value fee.
On top of the FVF, eBay charges a small per-order fee of $0.30 for orders $10 or less, and $0.40 for orders over $10. If you list more than 250 items per month without a store subscription, each additional listing incurs a $0.35 insertion fee. International sales add a 1.65% international fee on the total sale amount.
📂 eBay Fee Categories — Which One Applies to You?
eBay's final value fee rates depend on what you're selling. Most categories fall under the default 13.60% rate (12.70% for store subscribers). Higher rates apply to Clothing, Shoes & Accessories and Books, DVDs & Music at 15.30%. Jewelry & Watches sits at 15.00%.
On the other end, some categories enjoy significantly lower rates: Guitars & Bass at just 6.70%, Heavy Equipment at 3.00%, and Athletic Shoes over $150 at 8.00%. Many electronics and home categories share the standard 12.70% rate regardless of store status.
⚖️ eBay vs Etsy Fees Comparison
eBay and Etsy have fundamentally different fee structures. eBay charges a single final value fee (12.70%–15.30%) that includes payment processing, plus a small per-order fee ($0.30–$0.40). Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, and a separate payment processing fee (~3% + $0.25 in the US), totaling roughly 10–12%.
For most items, Etsy tends to be slightly cheaper on total fees. However, eBay's specialty categories like guitars (6.70%) and heavy equipment (3.00%) can be significantly cheaper. eBay Store subscribers also get reduced rates. Use our Etsy Fee Calculator to compare directly.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How much does eBay take from a $100 sale?
For a $100 sale (including shipping) in most categories without a store, eBay takes 13.60% ($13.60) plus a $0.40 per-order fee, totaling approximately $14.00 in fees. With a store subscription, the FVF drops to 12.70%, reducing total fees to about $13.10.
Is there a separate payment processing fee on eBay?
No. Since eBay transitioned to managed payments, the payment processing fee is included in the final value fee. Unlike Etsy or Shopify, you won't see a separate PayPal or payment processing charge.
How many free listings do I get on eBay?
Non-store sellers receive 250 zero-insertion-fee listings per month. After that, each additional listing costs $0.35. eBay Store subscribers get more free listings — from 1,000 (Starter) up to 100,000+ (Enterprise) depending on the subscription tier.
Should I get an eBay Store subscription?
If you sell regularly, an eBay Store can save you money through lower final value fees and more free listings. The Starter Store costs about $4.95/month and is worth it if you list more than 250 items. For high-volume sellers, the Basic ($21.95/month) or Premium ($59.95/month) stores offer additional savings.
What is Promoted Listings and is it worth it?
Promoted Listings is eBay's advertising tool that boosts your listing's visibility. You set an ad rate (typically 2%–10%), and you only pay if a buyer clicks the ad and purchases within 30 days. It can increase sales, but it adds to your total fees. Start with a low rate (2–3%) and adjust based on results.
Does eBay charge fees on free shipping listings?
If you offer free shipping, eBay only charges the final value fee on the item price (since shipping is $0). However, if you build shipping costs into your item price, the FVF applies to that higher price. The total fee amount works out roughly the same either way.
